Description:

Rational indexing of the Internet is about 15 years over due... The waste and inefficiency is plentiful, solutions cheap and abundant... Unfortunately, like all problems, few people are interested in investing in solutions. I can't believe I actually watched that whole thing. You don't seem to have any idea how Google, or even the internet works. Who is going to pay all of this money to start an indexing website, without making any revenue on it. Who is going to read EVERY web page on the internet, in order to classify them in this website. Yahoo actually did this for a while, and I think they are still doing it actually. But you don't seem to like them because they advertise on their site also.

im willing to bet that the abc (australian broadcasting corporation) would be thinking about this if the howard government hasnt eroded all power away from them. you should try to get in touch with them. there is still alot of free to air-non commercial tv & radio services in australia. maybe thats an avenue.

For clearification, I thought the business ethics were immoral. The problem is our philosophy for business. Why teach dehumanization? If we treat our workers right they will be more productive. You can see this in practice at Google ;) .

I also did not like the lack of student interaction at the Uni. I was not able to talk to the instructors in large lecture classes. I ended up just showing up for tests as did many other students. They did not teach jack shit with 100 or so students.

Hehe, not at this time. Largely due to the anti-intellectualism in America. I think we should privatize it all over time and I would advocate only voluntary funding. First thing we should privitalize is the public schools. I dropped out from bordeom, hated the ethics at the state Uni for business, and got my degree at a private college which has a private library(online and on campus) I can use me until I'm dead.

just curious, would you, for the sake of "all fronts" consistency, support de-funding public libraries... obviously if government support of Internet indexing (accessibility infrastructure) is wrong, it seems government cataloging (accessibility infrastructure) of books should also be wrong.

And that is where I'll have to leave my attempt at turning the discussion to something positive. We disagree on all fronts I think.

The "whois" database, which is government regulated, is where indexing reform should began... and as a practical matter a competitive alternative will need the financing and free publicity only government involvement would provide. A halfass rinkydink effort would be a waste of time and money (as pointless is building a Hoover dam out of mashed potatoes).

"""nonprofit organization""" The general fraud of nonprofit organizations is probably worth a video. Most nonprofit organizations produce nothing but perks and a salary for a bunch of hardly workers. Most nonprofits are run by elitist rich folk and their agenda is usually symptoms rather than creating solutions.

Part of the problem is that you are looking at a corporation and expecting them to act like a library. Yes, it's a waste of time. Do you think a nonprofit organization with a no commercial policy can pull off the library like concept you desire?

"""why somone cannot learn how to promote their site""" You really are not getting it. Do books in libraries need to "promote" their existence? would the consuming public be better off if the books competed with each other for attention, and then ultimately charged the public for the expense of the competition? this argument is a perfect illustration of a similar futile waste, as we are apparently in a pointless competition to have the last word.
