going green might help in the sense that it would reduce our impact on the world and itll raise human carrying capacity, but only until we raise our population again to meet the new carrying capacity. so we're fucked again. there is only so much this recycling shit can do. overpopulation is the major problem.

I think the way it is being discussed and promoted is bull, in the sense that we probably can't consume our way out of the current crisis...but real greenness goes much deeper than the current pop version... if we closed the loop on most manufactured goods it would do a tremendous amount of good...we are a long way from there though...

Nothing wrong with reducing a negative impact - the problem lies wherein society is fed the belief that their tiny little attempts are going to circumvent major catastrophe that should be dealt with on a massive scale by forcing standards and heeding major warnings (ie: the US's controversial decision to deny the Kyoto accord, not that I personally take sides on that one, just an example). If interested in more detail I'm about to post a full text reply to Karen's 'Going Green' vid over there.

third, i don't think there is anything wrong with trying to inform people of things they may not know. some people may not have known about the "light bulb" thing. i see the point in that. what i don't see what the point in is, in essence, arguing with a choice to do something that is reducing a negative impact.

first, i don't understand. you answer your own question. so, because there are worse things going on i should not make a decision that is, as you said, reducing the negative impact i'm producing? should i wait to do that until miraculously everybody on earth begins to act as saints? everything really does have an impact.
