Description:

This is essentially a film I created for a school project. The assignment was "1) Select a passage from On the Road that you enjoy for its ideas or language usage. 2) Create a visual arts piece to display your interpretation and understanding of the passage from the book. 3) Then, create a poem about your visual arts piece. 4) Present the passage, the art piece, and the poem all together." I chose my favorite passage, found on page 61 of my book, "I was rudely jolted in the bus station at Market and Fourth into the memory of the fact that I was three thousand two hundred miles from my aunt's house in Paterson, New Jersey. I wandered out like a haggard ghost, and there she was, Frisco-long,. bleak streets with trolley wires all shrouded in fog and whiteness. I stumbled around a few blocks. Weird bums (Mission and Third) asked me for dimes in the dawn. I heard music somewhere....On the door of Remi's shack was the note he had pinned up there three weeks ago. Sal Paradise! [in huge letters, printed] If nobody's home climb in through the window. Signed, Remi Boncoeur. The note was weatherbeaten and gray by now. I climbed in and there he was, sleeping with his girl, Lee Ann-on a bed" I changed the way the passage was worded by writing a short poem as an alternate ending to this scene. I kept it as follows, except I changed the things in asterisks. "I was rudely jolted in the bus station at Market and Fourth into the memory of the fact that I was three thousand two hundred miles from my aunt's house in Paterson, New Jersey. * I climbed in, and no one was there. I waited -- I sat and waited for Remi, or his girl, or anybody really, because there's no loneliness like San Francisco loneliness; and all frowns and tears are magnified in the fog and cold and empty rooms of Frisco shacks. I slept for a bit, then climbed back out the window, and I was on the road again.*

ahhh. You're really the first person to ask. The entire film is set to the tom waits song, which is really slow, and downbeat and jazzy, so I thought it would be cool to change the pace a bit for the credits.(also it's just gangster as hell lol)
