Description:
NOTE: I used a photo of the wrong Paragons. Chances are you first heard this song via Blondie's cover, but here's the real McCoy. Most of you may have discovered ska through the third wave ska craze about decade ago with the likes of Goldfinger, Sublime, No Doubt, Reel Big Fish among others. However, what I have here is the original incarnation of ska. This song isn't too rare but still fairly hard to come by. This isn't really such a deviation from my typical postings, ska is somewhat of a distant cousin of punk if you think about it. This original ska from the 60s. Before Reel Big Fish and Might Mighty Bosstones and even before The Specials. Reggae and ska are branches on the same tree. The sounds and style somewhat overlap, though reggae tends to have a slower pace. In a nutshell, Jamaicans were inspired by black American music, they form a genre of their own, it makes its way to the UK where it spawns the rudeboy subculture there as well as the original skinheads. The rest in history. These links can tell you more than my lazy ass is willing to type. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ska#History http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rude_boy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trojan_skinhead http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinhead http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tide_Is_High |

hultonclint ::: Favorites 1) This isn't ska, it's rocksteady. 2) The photo you give is of the U.S. doo wop group called the Paragons, not the Jamaican rocksteady TRIO called the Paragons. John Holt wrote this song. You have no facts here at all; well, you did admit you were a lazy ass! 07-08-10 00:59:19 _____________________________________________________
fROMIOWA ::: Favorites I could easily try to CMA (cover my ass) and go into a tirade against you, but fortunately for you I'm not that kind of guy. By the way, I never claimed to be an expert. Mea culpa. 07-08-10 03:29:28 _____________________________________________________
